Indian Railway: Change in Boarding point
Lets assume you have booked a railway ticket from station A to Station Z. But because of some issues, you want to board the train not from station A but from station D which is the 3rd station from station A.
If you are thinking that you can do this easily because you already have a reserved ticket, then you are wrong. According to the Indian Railway rule, if a person is not found occupying the seat within next stop, then the ticket checker has the authority to assign the seat to a new passenger. So, in that case you will loose your seat.
If you are lucky, then this would not happen. But its better to take a little bit of precaution to avoid any inconveniences later on!
Generally, many people cancel the ticket and get a new ticket from station D to station Z. But, the reality is that you don’t need to buy a new ticket. Instead, you can simply change your boarding station on the same train under certain circumstances.
Actions to be taken to change the boarding point:
- A specific request must be made in writing at the station from where the ticket is purchased and reservation made at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train from the starting station.
- The Railway Administration reserves the right to use such accommodation from the originating station up to the station at which the passenger is due to entrain.
- No refund will be permissible for the portion of journey not performed by the passenger.
Happy journey. Thanks.
